DF Advocates organises half-day seminar on the Banking Industry in Malta in collaboration with the Maltese French Chamber of Commerce
On the 11 September 2019, DF Advocates’ senior partner, Dr Jean C. Farrugia, moderated a workshop entitled ‘The Evolution of Banking: Strengths and Challenges’. The seminar was organised by the Maltese French Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with DF Advocates. The workshop was well attended by industry specialists as well as representatives of the Maltese corporates.
“One of the most salient points to take away from seminar was that further communication was required in order to bridge the gap between market perceptions and the regulatory realities faced by the banking industry” said Dr Farrugia. Moreover, he stressed, that it was apparent that the current gaps within the industry would prove to be the perfect breeding space for new challenger banks and fintechs.
The seminar was addressed by Hon. Minister Ian Borg, Her Excellency Brigitte Curmi, and Mr Joseph Bugeja, whilst Catherine Galea (Director Banking Supervision Unit, MFSA), Nick Calamatta (co-CEO of the Calamatta Cuschieri Group), Mark Scicluna Bartoli (Bank of Valletta), Kenneth Farrugia (Chairman of Finance Malta), and Roderick Psaila (founder Laskaris Finance), provided invaluable insights during the workshop.
